It's been a busy year for John Varvatos: The designer's already opened two new stores (including, you might have heard, one in CBGB), and today he debuts a custom-designed "shop-in-shop" at Fred Segal Man in Santa Monica (busy place these days). The 400-square-foot space will pack in the main line, footwear, and the John Varvatos USA Collection. And yes, it's a little bit rock 'n' roll—think black automotive-painted walls covered with vintage concert posters, washed-purple-velvet curtains, and an installation featuring 100 high-grade speakers. (Sadly, they won't be put to use.) Rotating seasonal collections will feature signature leather and shearlings, cashmere sweaters, soft knit tees, and tuxedo jackets for dressier L.A. nights. Next up? Varvatos hits the beach with a Malibu outpost expected in October.

New sartorial options for Vancouver grizzlies

Now arriving at the city's Roden Gray boutique: fall selections from Seattle's Wings + Horns. Highlights include a gray cotton blazer, several shawl-collar sweaters, and a finely tailored take on that Northwestern standard, the plaid shirt (left). But the highlight is probably the handsome military-style coat, which is due to arrive in the next three or four weeks and should retail for between $400 and $500. Check the store's blog (of course) for updates—and hope it comes in before winter does.

Crime: Doesn't pay, does look good

Beginning today, New York's Film Forum celebrates the nouvelle vague and its criminal pursuits with a lengthy series called The French Crime Wave. We wouldn't advise looking to any of the films for heist advice—these guys botch their capers as often as not—but for sartorial inspiration, there are few better. Their adherents abound among contemporary rogues: Pete Doherty, for example, seems to have lifted his entire wardrobe from Jean-Paul Belmondo's in Breathless (pictured). Another reason to go? These guys hit the town with beauties like Jean Seberg, Catherine Deneuve, and Brigitte Bardot. We haven't seen the girls Johnny Loi keeps company with, but we're willing to bet he can keep them.

Less than meets the eye?

For months, car bloggers have been wondering what's up with the Corvette that's been spotted on the set of the Transformers sequel. (It's a tough life, we guess.) Turns out the early consensus—that it's an early version of the brand's next C7—isn't quite right. Instead, as Jalopnik reports, it's actually something called the Centennial Design Concept, created to honor GM's 100th anniversary. More importantly, the site's source says it will not, in fact, be used as the basis for future 'vettes. Our apologies to those who do their car shopping at Shia LaBeouf movies.
